I popped out to Maidenhead Aquatics yesterday to get a few plants and to see if they had any nutrafin CO2 kits, well i got talking to one of the staff(who actually seemed pretty knowledgable) We got talking about external filters and said he might be able to do me a deal if I was interested. He left it at that and let me get on with deciding what plants I wanted....
I overheard him talking to a customer about the Galaxy Rasbora they'd got in :good: I immediately went over to ask him if they were wild or tank bred (wild) so had a chat about how I would love to breed them, but they were 4 for £10 and I was already pushing the bank balance if I was to get the external filter etc etc...

ANYWAY.....I came home with a Fluval 305 external filter, the nutrafin co2 kit, 500ml bottle of water conditioner, 500ml bottle of fertalizer, 4 plants......and ....a bag full of galaxy rasbora thrown in for free!!! He was aiming to give me 10 but when I got home and tried to count them, there must be between 15 and 20!!!! All for the grand total of £80

I will definately be shopping there again. I am so chuffed  , I'll let you all know how I get on with breeding. The little guys & gals are settling in nicely and have a tank all to themselves with plenty of plants, which will hopefully flourish now that I have the co2 kit.

I'll try and post some pics tonight.

here's some pics I attempted to get, not great, but hey, I never said I was a photographer...

Wow, that's lucky :) Still I suppose in the long run it's beneficial to them- they've got a potential supplier, eco benefits etc...

Lucky Bstard... That is brilliant, I have seen them in Aquatic Design Centre, also at £4.95 each. I though about getting some but they are so tiny... They are as small as an endler... I don't have Maidenhead Aquatics near me. The best is the Aquatic Design Centre... Please let us know if you are succesful at breeding.

well done you got a great deal

i got 12 for about £40 from a Maidenhead Aquatics :( (only place ive seen them at around here except wildwoods)

theres a few threads kicking around here at the moment about breeding them aswell with a few of us trying to breed them

What's that meant to mean? We take great pride in making sure we're not another 'sell fish, no advice' chain - even if it means losing sales. At least twice a day I reject people fish because their tanks aren't suitable etc. What other aquatic still won't sell you mollies unless you have salt in the tank? Only us. We've spent years building up a good reputation for quality advice even at the expense of profit.

pictures look good i found it very hard to get a picture of mine and havent tried since

i understand what you and fishbone say but ive been into a few Maidenhead Aquatics before and they dont have a clue what there speaking about and saying yea that will be just fine selling whatever they can

but at the one i go to now, there is one boy who is very knowledgeable about everything he sells (about the same age as me 17-18) always suggesting to do this first and ask's everyone about there tank before and even while he's getting the tank to make sure its suitable.
ive seen him regect 2 different people within 20 minutes while i was there as one of there tanks was to new (not cycled) and the others tank was not big enough

so i surpose you get good ones like your's and bad ones aswell

Alright mate, chill....
But I have on occasion heard some not so practical advice given out in the above mentioned shop(possibly from a trainee staff member, or someone with a little less experiance then his/her collegue?). I certainly wouldn't expect all lfs staff to know everything, but it was nice to meet a member of staff who was practicle, helpful, knowledgeable and actually took the time to talk, not just sell(unlike some other lfs I've been to).
I was not slagging off Maidenhead Aquatics, in fact I was praising it, perhaps I didn't make that clear, in which case my sincere apologies to any members of staff at Maidenhead Aquatics.

my lfs owners are very nice they must have given me £30 worth of stuff for free this is one of the best fish shops i know and all staff are very knowlageble!!! i went in to my garden centre supposed to be best in england! they said to a customer that zebra danios and ballon mollies were fine in a cold water tank with goldfish i stood there in amazment with my jaw rattling about on the floor. i really should of complained but i never got round to it.
