Mahoosive Phoobar!

Made a Mahoosive phoobar earlier! Ended up killing off 2 of my threadfins(2 males) and probably permanently damaging the rest of my fish! I cleaned Alex(axolotl) out earlier and I always use water from my fish tank to re-fill it because it doesn't contain chlorine. When I topped my fish tank up after taking a little bit more than the usual amount out, I soon realized something was wrong with the fish. They had become lethargic and slow and I found a dead threadfin. Put my hand in the water and got a shock. It was ice cold! I had put hot water into the bucket but the hot water wasn't on so only cold water was coming out! I put the hot water on and after a while of looking at my poor fish and wondering why I didn't check if the hot water was on, I got a bucket full of hot water and gently poured it in over the filter. Then I got a jug full and added that for safe measures. They are all good now, the heater has kicked in and the water is back up to temp. I'm glad I only lost the 2 because just after Christmas I was planning to get 4 more anyway to add them to the group. So instead of being 8 there will be 6.

do you not test the temp of the water before adding it to a tank?

and are you saying that the axolotl gets used dirty tank water from your fish tank as his water change?

No it's not dirty water really... It's a lot cleaner than what he would have to stay in if I didn't use the water from my fish tank... I don't have any de-chlorinator yet. I do a water change on my fish tank with fresh clean water the day before so it has time to get rid of the chlorine. Once I have de-chlorinator I will be using fresh water. I usually check the water temp as well but I've got a bad ankle and carrying 2 1/2 gallons of water round in a bucket isn't easy ATM... I just wanted to get it done and put my ankle to rest.
