I've been using a scourer to clean the inside of me tank of algae.
I'm thinking along the lines of a magnet being less stressful the a dirty great mit.
What is the consensus of the members comparing the scourer to the magnet for cleaning the algae?
Are they as good as a scourer?

Hi!
I like to use a magnet.
I have two, one hasn't got a very strong magnetic pull and the other one, which was a lot more expensive has a magnetic pull that takes a lot of effort to seperate.
The stronger magnet does the job well in no time at all, and I use the lighter pull magnet to do the back of the tank, as I like to leave a thin layer of algae for the fish to nibble on.
:)

Magnets can be very useful, in that you don't have to get your hands wet every time you want to clean the glass. I'd say you'll probably still need to clean with a scourer every now and again though. If you do get magnetic pads, then I'd recommend the floating ones. With these, if the magnets stop sticking, the one inside the tank simply floats on the surface...that's much more convenient (and much less irritating) than the type that sink straight to the bottom.

I just use a blade on the end of a long handle as I very rarely scratch the glass using this method, obviously being careful with the silicone in the corners! I find I don't have to do this often though as all my tanks are filled with nerites and cherry shrimp who take care of the algae for me
