One thing is for sure - it is a toad and not a frog. Frogs and toads are gardeners friends cos they eat all the bugs. If you are worried about your fish Id just put netting over your ponds and leave the wildlife to get on with it.

Yep!!!... the last one I caught at my ponds (I have a topic on it somewhere).... actually spat on my arm as I held it in front of my eyes..... I caught it and "Rehomed" it very faaaaar from my house...... Only noticed it when it was almost sailing over my bare feet....

How did you manage to catch it? With a long stick/equipment? Surely not with your bare hands?!

Well... Having been involved with the SPCA for 12 years in a small village, I was the custodian of all animal matters and this included removing unwanted creatures from residential areas (at all hours of the day or night - as volunteer), so I had my standard gear to capture snakes & reptiles which was a broom and a bucket.... (I was often told that they did not call for a cleaner).... But what I'd do, is to place the soft (bristle) side of the broom behind the neck of the snake, and while it is pinned down, I'd merely pick it up (tightly behind the gills - as it were) and place it in the bucket and replace the lid .....then drive it way out of town and release it......
