Lucky Bamboo- Nitrate Remover?

So I was flicking through sites on filter designs and I came across this site

Would this actually work? as in lower the amount of water changes needed? Or is it just a bit of fun?

It'd be quite easy to add something like that to the existing wet/dry trickle filter and its an absolute drag cleaning out this particular tank as its on the ground and I dont have any nice bits of equipment like pythons to do the job for me LOl, so its bucketing.

Would it be worth trying out? or am I just hoping for too much? LOL

Wow, I found a name for this- aquaponics, ran a serach on google and wow. No wonder I havnt managed to find big enough stock troughs, all teh aquaponic people are stealing them LOl, but I'm serious, they ahve order sites in Australia for stock ponds with acrylic viewing panels that are over 1000l, they also sell the bacteria we carefully cultivate in aquariums. LOL all I can say is wow
