Lowering Water Hardness

Hi guys. I've read a couple of stuff on the internet about lowering water hardness. Is there no alternative to reverse osmosis or buying distilled water? Is there some sort of chemical that might lower water hardness?

Also, does lowering hardness affect the pH?

we have really soft water in Yorkshire so you don't need to worry about softening your water. It's soft enough already!

I thought it said ours is hard water ! Thanks for letting me know ! I got instantly scared when I found out neon tetras much be in 1-2 dH! Thanks again!

well ours is about 3-4 KH and about 6 GH, so its fine for most soft water liking fish. Honestly though, most tank bred fish are able to live in a wide range of pH and hardness levels, so you're fine with most species. If you're really worried you can try to source locally bred fish that are definitely used to the water. Really, its only if you have wild caught fish you need to worry

Ah I understand ! Because some websites say that Neon tetras prefer 1-2 dH and my water, according to the website, is about 9dH. Thanks again!
