Hi!

I'm looking at possible ways to gradually lower my PH a bit at the moment as it's 8.2+. I figured I would do a test putting 50% 8.2ph tap water in a glass and mixing with 50% RO 6.4ph but it ends up with a ph of 8. Surely I should be seeing more of a drop?!?!

What am I missing?

Try mixing 3 parts RO with 1 part tap water. Also, do you have any bogwood in your tank as this is also known to help lower a high PH?

I use the above ratio to bring my community tank levels to a point whereby the Rams and Apistos can cope with it ;)

Yep that seems to work, gives me around 7.4/7.6 ish. I assume there's no problems with that mix? As I understand it the reason for mixing with tap water is because RO lacks minerals needed by the fish.

Do you add anything else to it? I assume you just do tap water with a water conditioner added & RO and that's all?

Thanks

That`s the way I was advised by one of the guys who specialises in the Rams at MA. I`d suggest that if you currently have fish then it`s probably better for them to get used to such a change slowly by starting off with 50/50 mix and then over the next 2 or 3 water changes begin to up the mix to the 3:1 ration.

I only add the dechlorinator for the tap water, nothing else. :good:

Ok that's great thanks. I'll give it a go and change very slowly over the next month or so.
