want to lower ph in a discus breeding tank, main tank is kept low with r/o and co2 but without co2 in the breeding tank its higher than i want. Peat seems like good idea, what peat do you use, want my water stable, do i put a bag in while ageing the water(normally overnight) then take it out or do i leave in the tank and how much does it lower it.
Thanks Angel

Running peat moss in the filter should work well but it depends on the buffering capacity of the water. The higher it is, the less effect the peat will have. Driftwood should also help lower it.

I've used peat 2 differnet ways. In a nylon stocking placed in the filter. Or, placed in a larger amount in a drum of water with an airstone and then using that water for water changes. I found the second method worked better but was a lot more work.

I bought a wisper 5-15 gallon filter. I did this becouse the filters have pockets in them for putting carbon in their. Instead I packet them full of peat moss and let it run :good: It seemed to distribute the "mossy water" pretty good. Also some Mlaysian bog wood or mopani seem to buffer the water pretty good. But like already mentioned it definatly depends on the buffering capability of the water. I think the wisper filter is like $20.00 or somthing.
