Something terrible has happened.

About a week ago my tank contracted white spot, after the introduction of 2 sucking catfish (to get rid of my brown algae problem)

I bought some king british white spot control and administered it to the tank 48 hours ago.
Calculated the right amount and halved it as directed for my clown loaches.

Got home form work and one of the platies had died

In the last three hours all three platies have died and two clown loaches are gone aswell. I am left with two loches who cant swim easily and 7 tetra's & 2 catfish which seem fine.

What should i do (i have done a 40% water change with stress coat).

Should have mentioned all fish affected have finrot aswell!!!!!

Could this all be attributed to white spot??

Finrot is common on top of whitespot, plus whitespot can kill a fish, once it gets to the gills and they heavy breath they don't usually make it, sorry.

You did increase aeration and raise temp.

Looks like it will take all the loaches then

Cant believe whitespot can kill fish this quickly :/

I have raised the temp to 26C but i do not have an air pump so i cant increase aeration

That why the are dying then they can't breath, high temp and med will reduce 02 in the water, go and buy an air pump and airstone, remove med with water change for now.

Yes, in summer months best to increase aeration in the tank with the high temp.

I have founf an old pump in the shed and an unused airstone :good:

I'm keeping my fingers crossed

Ok, just sterlise the airstone just to be safe, good luck.

Do they look better with the airstone running, if so add half dose back, or less if you think the med wasnt totally removed with the water change.

One loach is no longer hanging at the surface on the filter, but the other one is very ill. It has large washed out patches on its body, cant swim easily, seems to have its mouth protruding more than it should and deep lines under each eye.

I think i will wait till morning, see who survives the night.

My stick on thermometer is crap, my heater is set to 26 deg but the thermometer strip reads 29/30 deg. Im hoping the heater is correct!!!

I would too, the other loach does sound in a bad way, i think i would get another make of whitespot med, as they don't seem to be tolerating the med you have to well.

I would add some black carbon and get the med out completely, and buy other one.
How old is the med?
