Lost My Bacteria!

so yeah i started using the api melafix, and had to remove my active carbon...

so i decided to just change the filter anyways.. (the filter mesh)

and not put any new carbon until i was done medicating... so i put in a new mesh and realized that i threw away all my beneficial bacteria that has grown in my mesh!!!

what an idiot i am =(

now my water is cloudy and i put in new carbon cuz i moved the sick fish and used the medication on them in a separate tank...

great =( now i got like start all over.

Not fully over. You still have Bactria in the gravel and décor . Your going to have a mini cycle but it will not take as long.

good luck man, something happened with my tanks, one filter broke so flow rate and turnover was different for a bit and things got messed up ph dropping and ammonia building up. another tank, hasn't been right since i moved home from school with it, and i can't figure out why..it really sucks
i lost my rummynose tetras cause of it..

keep up with waterchange...maybe you could add some gravel in a stocking or something in your filter to help the small amount of bacteria on it transfer to the filter media..idk.

yeah thanks... i will be doing water changes and such, also i was thinking, since for the past few days i havent been home ALL day, i kept the light on and when i got home at night i turned it off

i was thinking maybe it was algea starting to bloom? thats how my relatives started so im going to be doing water changes and keeping the light off most of the time.

Aww wont take to long til it's running back to what it was. I just done a water change to the tank and i think im just gonna leave the filter well clear til i know what im doing with it! Its bloody huge!

What model filter do you have?

Does your filter have any other medium further up? mine has a ceramic media section that cannot be changed (which I believe is for the biological filtration) so the mesh is mostly a mechanical filtration method.

you will have a small amount of bacteria left around, but frequent water changes is all you can do i suppose! =]

i can only make out the word "tetra" on my filter. it was given to me from a relative for free. she has a new filter so she gave me this one to start off my tank with...

its pretty small lol, it takes medium cartriges of the mesh and carbon... its a hang over edge filter, external..

it didnt come with any extra mesia like the foam or sponge, but i could put something just before the mesh in the filter...
