i lost the bidding on a tank because it went way over my budget (by £2 :hyper: ) yeah i know im a tight fisted sod  anyway went shopping to cheer myself up, guess where i went? YEP you got it right, LFS, had a wander round and picked up a second hand 140L 3 foot long fry tank for WAIT FOR IT!!!!!!!!!!

£10

BARGAIN or what? needs a good clean but saved myself over £100.

now i can extend my range and finally give it the kick it needs. :good:

Wow!!! Thats a hell of a bargain! Well done! thats a huge tank for fry or have I missed a thread? What fry are going in it? And pics when set up would be good! Again congrats!!

no you aint missed a thread, im just addicted to fry FULLSTOP,this will be my 4th fry tank, needed a tank with a good length to spawn my drawf neon rainbows so the fry have the space to Zip around like lunatics.

lfs are great for stuff like that! mine dont have the things themselves, but they have loadsa adverts from other people. someone was selling a 4ft tank, complete with everything, for only £80.

i wish i had the space i really do

here it is, as you can see grubby so whats the best thing to clean it with? never had used tanks to clean before only ever got new ones.

clean the silicon off from the inside with a stanly blade, preferably in one of these wich can be purchased in any decent hardware shop (B&Q, Robert Dyas etc)

then scrub the tank with warm water and either lemon juice or white vinegar (this will dissolve any calcium build ups).
then rinse rinse and rinse again.

personally I'd replace the broken strut at the back or the tank and you can get a piece of glass from any glass/mirror shop.

lemon juice, cool, thanx wolf.
what about anything nasty that might be lurking in it, would the hot water be enough, gotta get it right as these fry are sensitive to most things

I'd fill the tank with water and add a strong anti bacterial, acriflavin would be my choice or myxazin.
leave for 24 hours then drain rinse and set it up.

maybe, maybe not, whilst cleaning the blue paint off i turned it round and caught it on the wall outside my house and smashed the blasted base  gunna go and get the other one they had left in the morning, same price. what an idiot, glad it was only a tenner. gotta laugh about it though :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: before the nervous breakdown kicks in

well i got the other one  and managed not to break it, what a DUMBNUT!!!!! i am.
but theres good out of bad, this one is 42" rather than 36" long and was far much easier to clean. good job i got it, had 7 drops of fry over the past 2 days so gunna need it.

the fry will love all that space and what a bargin, shame about breaking one though, so were any of these drops platy fry by any chance?
