Well yesterday and today has been filled with ups and downs. Who wouldve known so many things can happen in a fish tank in two days

So the downs...
My filter spat out a load of rubbish yesterday, very frustrating. But the water was soon clear again after some hard work from the filter and me. This morning i turned the lights on and fed my fish and then realised that i had a black guppy missing. I have two black guppies one with long fins and another with more short and neat fins. It was the ones with the shorter fins that i couldnt find... Well i looked everywere. And the last place i looked was inside the filter. My poor guppy had got in a tight gap between the pads and couldnt get out in time. Sparing the gorey details i could only tell it was my guppy from the colourings on its poor body and the fact nothing else was missing. Also when i was looking i found that right in a corner you cant see unless your standing directly above the tank a zebra snail of mine had got onto its back somehow and died.
Everything in the tank was running great and the water was good and there was no shortage of algae for my snail so im guessing its just abit of unluckiness. < Probably not a word but you guys know what i mean

But...
On the up side i have fry! When retrieving the snail out i found some fry, im unsure of how many or from which fishys there from. I dont have the right equipment to keep them safe and to rear them yet so im hoping they can hold out until i do. Also i have a hitchhiker! A small snail has hitchhiked its way into my tank. But it isnt a zebra unlike my others its different for sure. How and what did it come with i have no idea.

Sad day for my loses though :( Rest in peace my guppy and zebra snail...

I'm sorry to hear about your losses, I have expierienced similar things recently.  Is there something you can make to hold the fry?  or pick up a cheap 'hang on the side' fry net to seperate them from the main tank?

Do you have live plants?  The snail will have come in on those and will likely spread quite quickly.

Thanks, its frustrating when you dont know what caused it to happen isnt it?
I can have a look round to see, but its looking unlikely until i get the money to buy one...
No i dont have live plants (I considered it but didnt know much about them so need to look into them more before i invest). It has a conical shell so im assuming a trumpet snail. but its not very big at all so im assuming its young. I guess its come in when i got my zebras...

It certainly is, snails should be able to turn themselves over if on their back though so maybe old age.  Have you checked your levels recently? Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate?

Yes sometimes the snails are freebies in the bag!  Probably a Malaysian Trumpet Snail, they seem to populate some LFS tanks!

Yeah maybe, probably an oldie by now. Its all been fine just recently but going to check everything when i can soon as our supplier does it for us.

Haha, yeah thats my thought. Only a little'un though :)
