My opaline gourami has a red looking line surrounding his eye. Couldnt get a picture of it because he wouldnt really stay still...so I have included a picture that i did through MS Paint. This is exactly what his eye looks like.

Anyone have any ideas what could be wrong with it?

Thanks,
Amy

Even though this is somewhat late, seeing as no one's replied...

Does it look like in this gourami's eye? http://www.aqualandpetsplus.com/Gouram60.jpg (sorry about the pic quality - it's the only opaline I could find on google with the red line on his eye :p).

If so, that's completely normal coloration.

small hemorrhages around the eyes, septicemia can you issolate the fish as he will need treating, but once septicemia has progressed hard to cure.

what should i do to treat it?
what should i use?

Tetracycline if you can issolate, if not maracyn one and two just to be on the safe side, good luck.

As tetracycline will wipe the bacteria colony out in the filter in the main tank.

Tetracycline
Manufacturer: Aquatronics
A broad-spectrum antibiotic used in the treatment of gram-positive and some gram-negative bacterial infections. For infections of fin and tail rot, frayed fins, popeye, inflamed gills, mouth and body open sores/ulcers, livebearer disease, dropsy, Columnaris, and secondary infections such as fungal. Specific for livebearers and goldfish. Aerate the aquarium well when using. Useful for the control of some common bacterial diseases, including Aeromonias and Pseudomonas Genera and the Mysobacterial group.

Maracyn
Manufacturer: Mardel
A broad-spectrum antibiotic for gram-positive bacterial infections. For infections of columnaris (body fungus), fin and tail rot, popeye, gill disease, and secondary infections.
Active ingredient: Erythromycin.

Maracyn–Two
Manufacturer: Mardel
A broad-spectrum antibiotic for internal or external gram negative bacterial infections which can even be absorbed through the skin. Effective treatment of fin and tail rot, popeye, gill disease, dropsy (swollen body, protruding scales), septicemia (bleeding or red streaks on the body), secondary and internal infections. Effective even when fish won't eat.
Active ingredient: Mincycline hydrochlor.

Hold on a minute - don't go treating the fish if nothing's wrong with it - three-spot gouramies naturaly have red around their eyes - particularly mature males. Make sure this isn't all you're looking at before you jump to treat for something that's not there and stress your fish out needlessly.

I agree with sylvia, she will know if they are meant to have red circling on the eye, as i havent a clue, good luck.

I have two opaline gourmai both have red around the eye as far as i know it's nothing to worry about

Have to ditto that. My young, not yet mature opaline male was a red ring in his eyes, just as my gold girls do. It isn't unusual in gouramies at all. :good:
