Hi

Continuing from my thread about my fading bronze cory's, we have now noticed one of our pandas is looking off.

I am now beginning to think its bacterial brought in by the bronze. If so, what can i do/use to try and help the situation?

Thanks for your help

Signs of bacterial infections with no visable symtoms are.
Being pale or darker in colour.
Being listless and lethagic.
Not feeding.

Check the barbels to see if there short and thin.

Hi

Definately pale and lethargic

Barbels appear fine

Cheers

I would add a bacterial med then corys go down hill fast.
Can you issolate the sick fish.

Hi

If it wasn't for this male betta which we got amongst the females i could seperate them now, but i could get it done toworrow.

Any particular med you recommend?

Thanks

To cover all bases in the united states maracyn one and two.
If uk anti internal bacteria med by interpet.

Thanks very much wilder

I'm hunting around the house now trying to find a divider for another tank so i can move a male betta out of his little tank and then i can use that for the sick ones.

Thanks

Hi

Right. Not perfect, but my lovely male pk betta is now in a large fry hanger (with lid) in my big tank.

I have now separated the sick ones from the others. Will go and get meds first thing in the morning.

I dont know much about bacterial infections so i'll ask a few questions if i may?

Do the bacteria die if there are no host fish to live in/on?

I have been using the same bucket, net etc... so should i use meds in all tanks? (i have three)

Thanks once again for your help, its much appreciated

Hi
Sorry, yes i'm in uk

Thanks

I can answer 2 of them....

You should always use a seperate net for each tank, same goes with buckets..

What i do is have 2 buckets for each tank, 1 to fill and 1 to empty...

When a tank as had a disease, if you only use 1 net and 1 bucket, you should sterilise them before using them on other tanks.. i use boiling hot water from the kettle to fill up the bucket, then just put nets, traps etc in it.. that does the job..

If i was you i would watch the other tanks closely and only treat if a problem appears..

I must go and get some more buckets and nets. thanks for the advice

Yw, you should be able to get 6 cheap buckets from somewhere close by to you.. its best way then you have no risk of passing contamination from tank to tank :)

Good luck m8

Yep, we have "Trago" down ere in Cornwall :good:

One last important thing i forgot, always wash your hands well when going form tank to tank, it is possible to pass diseases this way if your hands are wet from one tank and you put them in another :)

Will do :good:

In the space of 4 hours, 2 of the sterbai are looking iffy. They had been looking pretty healthy and strong

Can only wait till lfs opens now.

Cheers

Hang on,cancel that about the sterbai. The light was off and the room was dark and i mistook them for the pandas

Hi guys

The poorly cory's, 1 x panda and 3 x bronze have been seperated from the others. i have added a dose of "anti internel bacteria".

I have since lost one of the bronze, but he was pretty poorly. The dose went in about 2 hours ago and the panda and one of the remaining bronze have coloured up a bit and the bronze is quite active! I'm going to continue their treatment and hope for the best.

One question - (probably a really stupid one) I take it that the anti bac treatment will kill the bad bacteria in the water as well as in the fish?

Oh, now have nets for each of the tanks and a dedicated container to sterilise everything :good: Will get more buckets when my cars back on the road, blew the oil filter! Its an import so had to order it, typical.

Cheers
