I just acquired a 45 gallon (US) tank, 36w x 24h x 12d. Used, it comes with an Aquaclear 2000 power filter, heater and undergravel filter (air pump driven.)
I realize that UGFs are out of favor and probably not useful for cichlids. I am looking for a reasonable variety of color and an adult fish size of around 4-5 inches (willing to listen to reason). I am gathering (through research) that Tanganyika cichlids would be a good choice. Movement is a plus.
The substrate that came with the tank is a pea gravel (size varies from pea-size to fingertip). I am willing to forego that if another type would be more appropriate. I have rocks as well.
Since the tank is not started, I am starting tabula rasa and am open to suggestions, warnings, etc. Fishless cycle will be performed when the time comes.
Thanks in advance.
