i've never had betta before but i'm looking to get a betta for my juwel korall 60.has anybody kept betta in this tank.i'm sure it would be a fine size tank for him.

also, would a bottom companion such as dwarf african frogs and/or some shrimp be good for them?

will he be the only fish or are you adding him to a existing tank?

personally i would say shrimp would be better as frogs could rip the fins :)

it'll be a new tank with him as the only fish

@pheonixgsd. Your right, I would go with shrimp instead of frogs. But not because of the frog tearing fins, but because I've heard of the betta acctually eating the legs, or the whole frog.  :shout: . But if it was my desicion, I wouldn't put him with anything else, because really bettas are solitary fish.

i have lots of shrimp in with mine, he occasionally eats a baby cherry but thats expected, i was thinking more as frogs tend to scrabble abit, but the outcome is the same whatever the reason, its not advisable, i would go with probably amano shrimp as they are bigger

i was thinking maybe amano shrimp or mandarin shrimp

depdning on the betta he will eat the shrimp or not. if you get an aggressive betta he will eat the legs and/or harass the shrimp.
i would go for pygmy cories, you could do about 6 in there with the betta. they are fun and active to watch. try out how your betta would fell with ghost shrimp, etc (cheap shrimp) and see if he is ok with them. then if he does you could add better shrimp like cherrys or amano and madarin shrimp. if not you could try pygmy corys

hmm good idea i would never have thought of pygmy cories :)

Many folks have kept Pygmy Corys with a Betta and had no problems. Every Betta is different though so make sure you watch the tank carefully. :good:

Buy the tank mates first so that a male can't claim the entire tank as his :) It'd also be a good idea for you to spend a good while watching the betta in the shop, and go for one that isn't flaring at everything else :good:

only thing is though,i plan to grow a carpet of UG or HC.don't corys dislodge it when its planted
