Long Overdue?

you know you guys say u feed your fish peas? How? do u just drop them in and let them float?

As was stated earlier in the topic:
Heat them up in the microwave, cool them off in cool water, peel the outer skin off, mash em up, watch your fish go crazy as you put the mashed up bits in.

Viola.

so how long u warm them up in the microwave for? and and cool dem in normal water or the tank water?

I just put them in until they were nice and hot. The ones I used were frozen, so I put them in the microwave for about 40 seconds or so. Got them nice and hot, just cooled them off in regular water.

That works just fine. I normally make sure they're heated enough where they have absorbed enough water to not float anymore also. That's about 30 seconds in the microwave.

just gave them some, some of the fishes didnt really eat it, and the others loved it, how often shall i feed dem the peas?

It's really only as a cure for bloat. I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to feed it to them more often, but that's the only reason I use it. Someone suggested I give some to my female just in case she had bloat instead of being pregnant.

oh okay, would you know why one of my male mollies just stays at the bottom of the tank and goes around the tank sometimes?

Check your water conditions. If your water conditions are okay, the next question I would ask is if the fish is avoiding other fish possibly. It may just be choosing to hang out on the bottom.

any news on the poor pregnant fish? She seems to be carrying the world lol! I have some that are quite pregnant as well, trying water changes and all sorts of things.

there seems to be many very pregnant fish around here, the other one (platy I think) actually died, hope your guppy is fine though

the one this post was about? thats horrible :( I've had one become fry bound, and die, I was there when she stopped breathing, so cut her open because I am weird and need to have answers - thought it was a cyst or something, and managed to save some of her fry, which were the size of two to three week old fry! I wonder what makes them go wrong and what not. I haven't had problems in the last few years fortunatly, except with these few that are over due, but going to try dipping them in cooler water next friday if they don't give birth soon, dangerous but often works if you cold dip them then warm them up again. Best to loose a few fry then the mother and all the fry as far as my brain book goes.

Wow, hope I don't have to end up doing that...

Dipping them in cold water? How cold for how long?

Dipping: it gives them a small shock, forcing birth in most cases. However, some or all fry could die. She could go into shock and die, or abort them all. I've only done this when fish were pregnant for more then 6-8 weeks without having fry, you take some of their water in a big bowl, chill it in the fridge 5 degrees F less then the tank, net her, dip her for 30-60 seconds, then return her to her tank/breeder net whatever and turn all the lights off. I always treat the tank with tonic before dipping to help ease the stress.

I do not recomend this in all cases. Its better then to have the mother die from being fry bound and loosing her and the fry, but be sure she is truly well over due. I've only done this with very preg female guppies that were moved to special tanks set aside for her to give birth on her own without other fish stressing her, then move her back into the comunity, so you can watch and see how long its been since fry, as sometimes in a community setting the others eat all the fry and it seems like she is just preg forever when she is really giving birth normally.

Anyway.. Good luck :) She does look well over due to me. Its risky either way I guess.
