Lonely Honey Gourami

About 6 months ago I purchased 5 Honey Gouramis. One by one they became pale, thin and eventually died. Four of them, that is. The fourth died this morning and the last remaining Honey Gourami is not acting like his/herself. He/she is much more active than normal. It seems he/she is searching the tank for the missing gourami.
I don't think I will buy anymore of these fish. I had terrible luck with them.
Just curious if these guys experience something that can associated with human grief?

Not sure about gourami, but some cichlids will die after their bonded partner does.

I use a PC, it may be different on a phone.
