Hi all.

I rescaped my 30G and 50G tanks this week and was thinking about moving some of the Livestock around:

Current Stocking is:

50G - 2 X Bolivian Ram X, 12 X Neon Tetra, 12 X Pristella Tetra, 8 X Platy, 3 X Gourami, 1 X L001, Guppy Fry
30G - 20 X Tiger Barb, 1 X Australian Redclaw Crayfish
20G - 2 X Juvenile Firemouth Cichlid (Growout), 12 X Silvertip Tetra

I was thinking of Moving the Gouramis (1 Opaline, 1 Threespot and 1 Wild Honey) out of the 50G in to the 30G, the Guppy fry in to the 20G and the Firemouths from the 20G to the 50G

This would give me:

50G - 2 X Bolivian Ram X, 12 X Neon Tetra, 12 X Pristella Tetra, 1 X L001, 2 X Juvenile Firemouth Cichlid
30G - 20 X Tiger Barb, 3 X Gourami, 1 X Australian Redclaw Crayfish
20G - 12 X Silvertip Tetra, 8 X Platy, Guppy Fry

I was then thinking of adding a couple more smaller Cichlids to the 50G, maybe some German Rams? Would they be OK with the FM's and Bolivians?
Not woriied about the Tetras. They are in big Shoals and if things get bad I have a spare 10G for them.

What do you think? Any alarm bells? Tanks are all overfilltered, all fish healthy and happy.

well the firemouths won't stay juvi for long and when they mature there could be big problems for the tetra's and the ram's youre putting them in with.

in the 30gal, if you get any of the smaller cichlids they are the ones that stay close to the ground (rams, apistogramma etc) which could be problematic for them with the crayfish

No cichlids in the 30G. Just Barbs and Gouramis.

I'll keep my eye on the FM's and take action when they start causing trouble.

What about the Bolivian and German Rams. Can they live together?

ah you've edited your first post, you originally said add some smaller cichlids to the 30g.... appreciate it's just a type-o

yeah german and bolivian rams should be fine with appropriate space.

when yuo say 'take action' with the FM's.... what do you plan on doing. If you can't house them for life it'll be easier to re-home them now than as adults and they can reach maturity within a year and be causing trouble.

I'll defintely be adding another tank later this year. Will just accelerate buying it if I need to.

I know not eveyone holds with moving fish as they grow but I've always done it with no problems.

no that's fine, just so long as you know you have somewhere suitable for them coming.

it's just the 'i'll cross that bridge when i come to it' attitude which annoys me cos you can be sure the bridge will jump out at you when you least expect it and when your strapped for cash and can't fix it!

Couldn't agree more. Will be interesting to seem them all interact with the Tetras and Rams as Juveniles for a while too.
