Is there much of a difference between the different types of live rock? I've seen Fiji, grade A fijian and bluestone Live rock. Bluestone being slightly more expensive.

Cheers.

The Fijian is generally thought of as high quality.

The bluestone has a blue centre (but you will never see that once the coralline algae spreads over it!) As to it's quality for filtration purposes - whose to say?

No Probs Mark,

What's the plan? (have you told us and I have missed it?)

Don't know about in Ireland but over here it is always worth scouting around for people breaking down a reef to get it a bit cheaper.

I'm going to convert one of my tanks to marine. Probably my rio so doing alot of research at the moment. I.e reading journals. So probably expect the odd random question.I need to find homes for my freshwater fish before I can do anything. The lido is an attractive option as a nano but I've only just set it up.I'll probably do a journal once I kick off properly.

Random is my middle name!

Sounds good!

(it isn't really....it's marion...boy did I get teased at school)

My idea of "live rock quality", is the hitch hikers you get with it :shifty:

If you can get your hands on Haitian rock. That's the stuff I use. Mostly found in FL, but who knows what's being imported now. It's a lighter rock with many crevices and holes, increasing surface area. A lovely purple color too. Then when it's covered in coraline, very stunning. Most of my tanks are done with Haitian rock.

I don't think Haitian is an option here. Oh well.

Shame... This is the description from Liveaquaria. Also sold as Caribbean live rock.

It's a very porous, light live rock. I love working with it.
