Well I got my first fish today, 6 x galaxy rasbora, 5 x red phantom tetra and an albino krib female.

The krib was a gift from my hubbie who, after me trying for months to get him interested in the tank, decided that my choice of fish were all too small and thinks he should now get involved, after I have done all the fishless cycling stuff.
 men eh!

Anyway, they are all happily swimming around in the tank and the krib has made itself a home under a large piece of bogwood. (It actually is a lovely fish, he has good taste)

Now, the lfs gave me 2 x bags of live daphnia, told me to rinse it in tap water and add it to the tank with a small net.

I have added 1 bag but there seems to be loads of daphnia and a lot of it seems too big for my tiny fish although the krib has no trouble chasing it all over the tank.

My question really is this, what happens to all the uneaten stuff. Will it die and affect my water or will it survive until it all gets eaten.

Also what should I do with the other bag, how long will these things stay alive for in the sealed bag they came in and do I have to keep it in the fridge or something?

Sorry if this is a stupid question

Daphnia are fresh water very small animals. Any that are not eaten right away will continue to live in the water for a while but since you are not feeding them, they won't live too long. The ones not eaten today will be eaten tomorrow or the next day unless you get totally carried away with the feeding quantity. There are those who think they are an ideal food for your fish but I've never even seen them for sale. I do use frozen daphnia but its not the same thing at all. Having never used them I don't know if they could be held for later use in a cold location like a refrigerator. Its just outside my experience.
