Just over a week ago I got some amazon frogbit and put it in my tank. Unlike all other floating plants I have tried it is actually surviving and growing, so I was happy. However, tonight I was feeding my fish and noticed some small things on the tops of the leaves, above the water. I looked closer, and they are sort of green coloured, with little legs and THEY ARE ALIVE What are they? How can I get rid of them? And will they leave the confines of the tank and invade my flat?

Please help me.

Chances are they're just greenfly or aphids. Where did the frogbit come from?

I got the frogbit from the green machine. Thanks for the link mislisa. I'm still not sure what they are, but I am going to try and get rid of them because insects creep me out.

I'm pretty sure they'll be aphids then. not going to cause any trouble or invade your flat!

They do look a bit like the ones in biffster's link, except that their legs are black and not white, and they are a darker green. But they do have six legs. They may well be harmless but I am afraid I went on a killing spree anyway. I removed all the ones I could see, and then went back and got some more. I will do the same tomorrow and hopefully I will eventually get them all. Unless there's a better way?
