I put my new Red Lizard Whiptails coming out of quarantine into the same tank as my adult Sturisoma whiptails yesterday.  I was a bit wary as they can be quite feisty with each other at times and I was a bit worried about the new ones getting injured but there's plenty of cover and they seem to have different feeding habits so I thought I'd give it a try, it's only a temporary measure while other tanks are been sorted out.  So far no issues at all, the sturisoma have completely ignored the new comers but one of the little ones seems to have formed an attachment to one of the males and so far can be found hovering somewhere in the vicinity of him at all times  :)

My partner was originally very keen on whiptails years ago while I was more interested in more predatory catfish, I did like them though.  They were a lot rarer then than they seem now.  This variety (sturisoma festivum) I spotted in a lfs two years ago and immediately loved.  I bought 6 hoping to maybe breed them at some point.  We lost 3 of them last year to an awful outbreak of ich, I don't think I've been sadder about losing fish than on that occasion.  The remaining three however have gone from strength to strength and are amazing fish.  Norbert and Nora have had three clutches of eggs over the last few months (pictured fish is Derek - I'm on the hunt for a female for him atm).  All of the first batch died but we have 8 or 9 (out of 20) of the second batch and last week added a further 20 odd hatchlings to the fry tank.  We've lost about 5 of those so far.  I love these fish more and more the longer I have them.  The little red lizard whiptails look like they are going to be nice fish as they mature too, maybe not quite so exotic though
