Hi is liquifry any good? and i fi breed angelfish would this feed them until old enought for flake or adult brine shrimp?

I once knew a sucessful breeder of angelfish who told me to take my Liquifry to the back door and throw it as far up the garden as you possibly can. Although good for many egglaying species he said he had a problem with it when it came to angels.
Hard boil an egg and place some of the yolk in a cotton hankie and squeeze it in your fry tanks. (Old recipe)
Have a word with Tolak on this forum on how to sucessfully raise Angelfish fry.
Regards
BigC

Liquifry will not work for angels if you want much success, bbs is the way to go.

thankyou.tolak,Could you tell me how to make this food from bolied eggs?
What is the stuff called that come from it.And i heard that apple snails give off infusoria and fry it that.thankyou.

Egg yolk is an old feeding technique, it doesn't work as well as baby brine, and tends to really foul the water. You need to change the water soon after feeding, or you will have bacterial problems. This means 3 water changes daily if you feed 3 times daily. As Big C stated you are taking the yolk of a hard boiled egg, and wrapping it in linen, then squeezing it through. Feed just a little to the fry, too much will really make a mess.

Baby brine shrimp is the way to go if you want a good survival rate. Live food stimulates their feeding instinct when they are newly swimming. You can also get by with once daily water changes if you hatch & grow them out in a 10 gallon the first few weeks. Vinegar eels also work for the first week, you will need bbs after that. I introduce finely crushed flake after about 3 weeks, they tend to ignore it any sooner.

http://www.brineshrimpdirect.com/ has all the info you need to know about bbs, http://www.cbsbettas.org/eels.htm is a good article on vinegar eels.

thankyou for the great advise. Is there any food what the fry eat that i can just buy? or bbs the way to go?

should i not breed angels and try dwarf gouramis?i heard these are alot easier.if so will these feed on liquifry,if so how long for?thankyou and sorry for all the posts.

If there was a food the fry would eat with a decent survival rate I would be using it. Some breeders introduce decapsulated bbs after the first week or so, though this is pretty much a tansitional food to get them used to food that doesn't move.

I've never bred gouramis, http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=44123 may help with this. One of the things you have to keep in mind is a place for the fry once they are sellable size. A small angel spawn is 200 fry, and you need to stock at 2 fish per gallon at dime size, the smallest most people will buy them at. A 200 fish spawn needs 100 gallons to get to dime size, 200 gallons to get to nickel size. Feeding bbs gets you these results, but you need plenty of tank space.

Hi HODDY :)

Dwarf, or other gouramis, are not easy fish to raise. They are very tiny and do well on green water to start.

Are you new to raising fish? Do you have any experience raising any egglaying fish at all? It's not unusual for fishkeepers who want to get started breeding to pick some of the more difficult fish because they are very attractive. If this is the case, there are certain types of fish that might be easier to start with then the ones you have mentioned. After raising a batch or two you will then understand just how things work and be better prepared to try raising some of the more difficult species.

Do you like cory cats? Bronze or albino C. aeneus are excellent fish for a beginning breeder to start out with. They thrive on easily raised microworms and do well with just one water change a day. They are usually easy to sell too, if you have an independent lfs in your area, since they are popular fish and good sellers for them. :D

Ive have bred livebearers before but got boring.Could you recommend any easy fish to breed.I love danios but never thought about breeding them,I have no idea telling which is male and which is female.Plus i dont know what would breed well in a 5g tank. And the last hin is the most important thing,What to feed the fry on.I would like to use liquifry but have no idea on what fry will eat it.Any thoughts would be great.thankyou.

Just thought I'd add that microworms are another good fry food which is small, doesn't foul up the water if distributed correctly and is a synch to culture. I've had success with alot of my fry due to these (alot of different species, never angels or gouramis though although for small fry they are a great alternative/addition to insoforia, etc) until I lost my cultures during a house move about 12 months ago.
