Lights?

Why are lights so bloody confusing. I've been trying to grow different plants in my 110l for ages with little success, I've bought plants and have had plants donated from other generous members just to watch them disintegrate or turn brown. I am putting my failure down to my own stupidity as I have only been using the 15w bulbs that come with the tank (Juwel Delta 100). I'm going tomorrow to pick up 2x 24w bulbs and was just wondering if this would be enough light for healthy plant growth without having to mess around with co2 and other stuff that's over my head? Also if anyone could tell me the difference in the lights themselves eg. warm & daylite, do I need a combination of different bulbs for my plants to grow?

plants adapt to any light really but make sure there not over 10000k (i think)

it might not be your lights which are the problem.. what plants are you trying to grow

Good question. I've got 2 kinds of crypt, stargrass, sag (i think) and some others.
Of the 2 crypts the big leafed 1 seems to be doing well but the leaves are a bit scraggy and the small leafed crypt is turning brown.

how long have you had the crypts it might just be melt?

Big leaf crypt is in about 3 months and the small about 5wks.

maybe not then upgrade your lights and see what happeneds

What's the chances upgrading the lights will work, it's an 85 mile round trip to get the bulbs. Just been through your journal, very nice.

i dont know sorry but for plants to grow its could be down to many factors the big ones being lights co2 circulation and fertilizers do the plants have holes in the leaves. or not if so its probably down to a lack of carbon. if you had low light id say they would go leggy in search of light... but my knowledge isent the best on this. you could try upgradeing your lights and pick up some ferlizer while your there? maybe? see how that works
