Can anyone explain why a 42" tube gives off more light than the 48" ? Here is part of the table from arcadia for working out what size reflector you need:

Overall Reflector Size:........Fluorescent Tube Size:
830mm/32.7" ....................30W/900mm/36"
884mm/34.8" ....................38W/1050mm/42"
1047mm/41.2" ..................36W/1200mm/48"

Stickle, I can give it a try......

If they are referring to the end result.....

Both tubes are rated at 40 watts, and the shorter tube may be more efficient than the larger one.

40 watts X %95 efficient = 38 watts
40 watts X %90 efficient = 36 watts

Don't know if I am right for sure, but it sounds good... :D

hehe better than any explanation I could think of ;)

It just seems wierd as normally longer tube = more W's
