Hi all,

I've tried this on the Hardware section without joy so it's back to talk with my real friends!

I have an 18'' long, 6 gallon tank that I want to set up as a planted nano (along the lines of one of George Farmer's).

I'm having trouble finding an 'overtank-luminaire-style-unit' that will fit it AND provide enough watts to grow a glosso carpet!

I saw a Glo Linear, double T5 unit for a 24'' that would be perfect but it won't fit (it only shortens down to 54cm).

Any ideas or products that you know of please give me a shout.

Cheers

Steve

Thanks for the replies.

Thanks Revision - Those Bright Kits look great - I'd have loads of watts too (2 x 36) - At $70 its a real steal, I'll just have to see what the shipping cost is to the UK!

I've looked at the Farmer light Themuleous and it does look good. I don't think I could get away with that wattage for my 'bigger' nano but i will look into those compact lights at a different size and work out the cost. Plus - I ain't no handyman for sure!

Thanks again

i have a 12" nano but have a 16" 36w pc T5 tube on it, it hands over each end by 2" but so what, unless you want it built into the hood, i have 2 toilet tubes cut to size to hold it up.

I've a 18" running 36power compact, I recommend using a luminair style lid using drain pipe and some wire or a bracket, that's what I use and it works well.

That sounds interesting - I don't suppose you have any pics of it? I'm not much of a handyman!

You don't have to be, all you need to do is buy the drain pipe already to length, then simply screw the clamps that come with the bulb to the inside of the guttering, all you need then is to get some hooks and screw these into the plasterboard using raw-plugs.
Its just a matter of then adding a second set of hooks into the guttering and stringing it up.
Aim for 10cm between the light and the water surface.

Be careful with heat using a drainpipe and power compacts, I cant say it definitely will be an issue but best to be safe :)

Isn't an issue for me, upvc the stuff drainpipes are made from is a thermoset plastic and doesn't melt until very high temps are reached.
