Hi guys,

I have a project on the go where I'm creating a nano tank to fit a particular space.
I'm having trouble with finding a good light fixture. I'd like t5 setup to future proof certain plants should I decide to do a mini high tech.

The length space for a fitting would be 19" max.

I have a spare fixture at the moment which is a 2x24w ballast.

One thought is to retrofit this setup (basically move one end in a little) with smaller length bulbs, but I'm not quite sure whether this is possible if I'm overdriving lower watt bulbs?

Another option is to create my own fixture using smaller bulbs and a different ballast, but again I'm having difficulty finding bulbs/ballast that I could use.

If anyone can give me some guidance on either the retrofit, or alternative products, I'd be very happy :)

Thanks,
Oph

Try these lights. They are extremely thin/compact and EXTREMELY bright. You could use 2 of these on your tank as they are so cheap. They also do marine versions for anyone who is interested.

I use these on all of my tanks and so far I haven't seen any bad points.

They're waterproof to IP67 standards which means of you drop them in the tank they won't be destroyed but they CANNOT be submerged for lengthy times( sort of drop them in quickly get them out ordeal)

What are the Pars of these lights as the wattage on them are very low when it comes to tank size and depth?

Thanks AquariumGuy,
They look pretty slick. In my research I found Juwel Hi-Lites T5's that would actually fit the existing fixture perfectly.
It's a 10 gallon tank custom made, and the ballast houses two of these.

I think I'm going to add a strip of submersible LED's to a rotary switch on a separate circuit for a different feel on occasion.
(It's a novelty tank that I want to keep options open with, so it's more important that I future proof for several eventualities)
One spectrum being minimal upkeep rock based, other end being if I decide to move some HC over.)
