Lighting Question

I was in Pets at Home the other day, they had a fish tank with Neons and a blue Betta in.
The tank had one blue light and one White light.
Gave the tank a nice subtle blue glow.

What's the pros and cons for having different coloured lighting?
Would the blue and White effect plant growth.

Many people have moonlighting which is essentially a low wattage blue white that allows you to have evening lights on to extend your viewing pleasure for a couple of hours after the main tank lights turn off.

Both on at the same time I see no difficulties unless your trying to grow plants with specific requirements that are difficult to grow.
