I did have a fish tank (it wasn't used for fish) about ten years ago and this had a light built into the hood. The hood on my new tank doesn't have a built in light. I realise I'll have to buy the light seperately but my question is this: how does it all fit together? Will any make of light (not just talking about the flourescent tube) fit any make hood that's the same length? Will the hood need drilling? How is it held in place???
This question probably sounds a bit daft to the seasoned fishkeeper. I've had a look in the Hardware forum and couldn't find a posting that really answered this question.

Might be better off posting this in the d.i.y. section of the forum.

No, I would not make any assumptions about tube-holding hardware automatically fitting a particular hood. There's lots of stuff out there and the different types are all different from each other for the most part, even though overall its the same kind of stuff, if that makes sense, lol.

If you are handy with electricals and tools, then by all means have a go at it but I'd measure and consider everything carefully before buying any items you need. On the other hand I'd also be asking myself whether its worth all that and wouldn't it perhaps just be better to buy the finished product I needed.
