Light Substrate Vs. Dark Substrate

Well whiteish sand was cheap, so i got that.
Bright tank, but poop is easily visable and with a pleco who likes to tank long easily removed pieces and turn them into poop dust... its a pain.

However ill go with light, i guess i should be forced to clear the poop up for good water quality anyhow.

For freshwater tanks, i prefer dark substrate and black background, and in fact, i think this is a very natural look for a community tank. I have a planted tank w/dark substrate and it reminds me of the dark, rich bed of the amazon river. It really shows off the fish's bright colors.
