I find this funny but I've checked both the water from my lf's(Petsmart and Petco) and theres a bit of a difference. The water at petco reads pretty close to my tank stats at ph 7.4, no amonia, and low nitrates and My petsmart reads at ph 7.3, amonia .50, and low nitrates, But this is what I find interesting all the fish I buy from Petco even in great health die while about 80-90% of the time the fish I buy at petsmart survive and do great. It also could be they get hardier fish in stock but I'm not curtain.

If you think of the turnover of fish at an LFS, On monday it could have guppies in it, and by friday it could have a large cichlid. I think you just have to try not to put any of the LFS's water in your tank. This will go a long way to keeping your tank stable. In my house, I have nearly 2000 litres of water in fishtanks spread between all my tanks, and the only way I have kept them all stable is to control what goes in the tank. This includes:- meds - lfs water & fish. If i'm not sure, I qtank the fish just incase

I used to work at a petsmart and the water quality changes daily, also, I noticed that most people just copy down the tests from the day before so don't always believe their test results.
