So due to my weird results recently, i gathered 3 lots of water samples to take to my lovely local fish shop this morning...they were a bit busy, but there were enuff staff on. 20 mins later i got to the till and explained i was doing a fishless cycle on 3 tanks..as soon as he heard "fishless" he scowered..and said "sorry i havent time to do 3 lots of tests, we are too busy" he told me to bring them back in mid week??? hmmmmm
some ppl are soooo rude!!

What? I can't believe why some people are so rude! Wonder how they'd feel if they weren't "busy".

But yeah API testing kit- we use it at work, always seem to run out of nitrate bottle 2 before anything else though

i find it alot easier to read then the nutrafin...and ive just won a salifert Nitrate on ebay for £7..so we will see...still havent got my test tubes though...so testing my 3 tanks takes about an hour!
shame...as i found this shop alot better than P@H...BUT i did notice when they tested my water last time he never shook the nitrate bottles...hmmmm I'm shaking my bottle like mad and im getting readings of 80-160ppm or 80ppm

Can you all PLEASE come to the P@H I work at?! I feel bad that so many of you seem to have had bad expiriences from other stores- as my store is full of genuinley nice staff, who all really do care about the animals we work with, and I would have done your water tests for you- would've shaken the bottles and everything

and 80ppm- bloody hell!!! ...is the testing kit in date? (random thought I know)

you know with the api test kits you can just use half the amount of tank water in the test tube, thus half the amount of drops..

even the nitrite test i only bother with a small amount in the bottom and one drop of test liquid.

....and i dont know why you are farting around with a nitrate test for its not important really, sure if you cycle stalls a little when its high people have suggested a water change but honestly, its far less complicated than you make it sound.

i have Laura... i have the API master kit..but my ammonia and nitrate have run out already..

Wow! Lol I only just ran out of my first ever ammonia test last week, and I've had it 7 years! Getting a Salifert one next

Agreed. I honestly cannot remember the last time I tested my nitrate. It's useful to know you have them when fishless cycling, but other than that... the numbers are fairly irrelevant.

Hell, I'm only mildly worried about not having an ammonia test kit, and that's far more important than nitrate! although I'm the first to admit that I have only recently reached that level of confidence in my ability to read my tanks without kits.

well..im starting to think not to bother with the Nitrate test anyway as its off the scale again...i changed to the nutrafin one and it still a colour thats not even on the card!! i dunno???/
My Nitrites are still spiking 12 hrs after dosing...I am the most paitent person i know...my its running very thin now.

Oh and i have done a w/c on Tank 2..which made no difference at all!
