Let's Play. . . Name That NW Cichlid

Okay... I've had a pair of these fish for several months now. I bought them thinking they were Apistogramma Hongsloi, but I'm not sure anymore. I have a pair... pretty sure that I have one of each sex. One of them has a longer, more rounded tip of the dorsal fin (I think that's the male).

The eyes in this picture are red because it was having a stare-down with it's fellow tankmate. The picture doesn't show it, but the hot pink and blue glare up when the fish gets excited.

Anyway... can someone confirm if this is (in fact) an Apistogramma Hongsloi?

PS: Pardon the algae on the glass... tomorrow is cleaning day.

that is microgeopahgus altispinosa...Bolivian Ram. I've got a mated pair sitting in my other room! Great fish, with awesome color! They're a dwarf cichlid only reaching about 3".

Actually, I know for sure it is NOT a Bolivian Ram. I have two Bolivian Rams in that same tank (see one below). They have a darker gray body.

It's actually a male Microgeophagus Ramirezi - German Blue ram. Do a google image search for the latin name and you'll get a TON of hits for comparison.

The clue that this one is a male is the larger anal fin. Males have longer spikes on the first rays of the dorsal fin and the back end is pointed. The female has spikes on the dorsal fin, but they're not as long. Comparitavely, the anal fins are smaller and the back end of the dorsal fin is rounder. There's also a distinct pink coloration to the belly of the female.

no its a Not stressed Bolivian. Mine used to look darker grey but lately they are really colored up.

I also have German Blues and Bolivians.

The one you are asking about is without doubt a German Blue, not a Bolivian.

Bolivians are broaderand less colourful. They also have bigger mouths!!
