I changed my tank around quite a bit in the past few days. I've taken out the gigantic piece of wood and have switched from white sand to black sand. I really like this look a lot, because now the fish are the centerpiece of the tank, instead of the tank itself. To me, that's the way it's supposed to be.

Some fish pictures... The contrast on the fish now is astounding. I love the colors on them!

Pictures of a new bichir coming up later... :shifty:

I like the sand after but i prefer the rock before

snap! prefer the big wood and decor of the first one, but then with the black sand it would have been lovely......

still a v good looking tank though, i like the minimal look

I think a bit of greenery like in the first pic would contrast nicely with the black sand

I think the greenery would be nice, too, but it doesn't last long in the aquarium. The fish are too robust and they run into it, knocking it around the aquarium.

I really liked the wood before, too... but honestly, I felt like I never saw my fish. The datnoid was constantly hiding in it and the cats were highly nocturnal. Now, the datnoid is out all of the time and the cats actually come out more with the darker substrate.

Thanks for the comments, though! :good:

looks good :D

but yes, greenery.

could you not try something like java fern and anubias on the wood? even my headstanders don't touch them.

Gorgeous fish!

Yes, greenery. :|
It was java fern before, but it would always become detached. It's not completely finished (which tank is?), but the point of the tank is to show the fish and not really decorate the tank as much. I might try anubias one day.

Gorgeous fish!
Thanks! :D
