Ain't that weird?

Here are just two pics of the palmas palmas... I didn't want to stress it further by following it around with a camera. It's got a lot of coloring up to do.

Thanks for the compliments. The palmas species are some of the nicest bichirs out there.

With my dat, it became more active after I took the wood out! I don't know about ATs, though. :dunno:

My tank is bare except for 2 internal fluval 4+'s

one of them is pretty active the other isn't however i hope to get rid of my jurupari chichlid which i hope will bring them both and maybe of piece of bogwood in the middle of my tank like yours so it isn't such a distance from one end of the tank to the other if you know what i mean :D

not sure if the black sand would help either ?

I don't think the sand is that big of a factor. Mine was active the moment my tank was bare bottom and open (I kept it bare bottom for a day or so before putting the black sand in). I think that the small pile of wood is a good idea, giving them a place to hide, if they need it, but not too much so they are there all the time. It's worth a try.

Sounds like you like the same exact fish I do.

I much prefer tanks with dark substrates over the lighter ones. I still prefer the larger bit of wood, although i can understand that it was really dominating the tank to the point you looked at that more than the fish, so understand why you removed it.

Ive also got a Palmas i just dont see it that much as its about half the size of my Senegal and i think its scared lol

I never realized how nice the tank would look with that dark substrate and dark background. As many say, you just can't appreciate it unless you see it in person. I am just blown away at the beautiful fish I seem to have!

Another thing that is just blowing me away is the fact that if I look down one side of the tank, I can see the other side! Before, the wood blocked that view.

Which palmas species do you have?

first set up with the black sand and a bit more greenery would of looked smashing!!!!! Not too sure about the new set up. seems a bit..........bare!

Woah, big changes. The tank looks great though especially since you can actually view the fish now.
Just can't wait for that palmas to color up. :D

That was the point. If you read the rest of the posts on this topic, I explain the reason why I take that wood and plants out. It was just too much and I felt like I never saw the fish.

She looks really good right now. Really green, which I wasn't expecting. I was expecting more yellow, but the green is really nice.
