Leopard Danios

Lool I made the same mistake wan  and would`ve been doing the same if it had not been these guys . I remember two hybrids I had brought two weeks back and kept them in a 8 gallon tank i guess.Real need for speed they have .

Anyways point is that for the betterment of the fish get them in a four foot tank.

What I feel is there is a common contagion here, because of the presence of multiple veterans , so its not Advice but Rules we should adhere to in fish keeping; so that our pets and our fish live their life the way they should be living. :good:

Thank you for your post crunch7 but surely that would mean leaving them in their natural habitat? :D

ah the lovely crunch once again!! hows the studying going m8?? all good i hope! no people on here do not lay down rules..we give advice in the best interests of the fish and fishkeepers concerned. it is entirely up to the individual whether they choose to accept the advice given. it really is a case of take it or, in your case crunch, leave it!

bruce - thank you for the PM you sent me. i hope you received my reply. always happy to help someone like yourself who is serious about keeping fish and concerned with their health and well-being. hope all is going well and your wife is successfully rearranging your house to make room for more tanks!!

L :hyper:

just noticed your post above about stocking levels. yup you really don't want to add a lot more just now. i don't know if you are aware that danios, tetras and corys (no idea about mollies - never had them!!) should all ideally be kept in groups of 6 or more? they just seem to prefer it feeling safer in groups and displaying more natural shoaling behaviour. however as you quite rightly said, you can't really add much more ATM. maybe you might think of asking the lfs to take something back and up the numbers of your groups? you have said though that they all seem quite happy just now so you could wait until you get your new tank and cycle it and then do some 'shifting about!' your danios would look great in a bigg group in a large tank.

anyway...just something to think about...

ps - your wife has good taste...sterbai are my favourite!!!! great little fish and very entertaining!

Good to see you again crunh. how are those tiger barbs doing in that tiny tank of yours?

So if your wife rearranges the living room, what kind of tank are you going to beg her for? (yes, I said beg lol)

Try showing her some of the very nice fishtank pictures from the members on the forum. Some of the beauty that the members here have created would be sure to get your wifey to let you have another fishtank!

+1..take a look at tizer's beautiful HUGE tiger barb tank...she says with just a hint of sarcasm!! (lol di!!) no but really bruce have a look at members tanks. your wife won't be able to resist and you might even get a bigger tank than you first thought!!

L :yahoo:

i had danios in maybe a 2 foot tank? where happy as larry where spawning regulary. They are active as hell so obviously a big tank would suit them better but i dont think theyre to bothered about turning around and swimming the other way. As far as hardiness goes when i first got into fish i put way too many fish in a 5 gal without a cycled filter (noob) and the danios where fine untill i realised i was a bit naive and had a cycled filter by that point and upgraded my tank. so yeah, will always get conflicting info depends on the size of them also.

She is more worried about the style, colour and shape of the cabinet/stand than the actual tank itself!Women,eh!

Like I said, we have all made the mistake, I had a small school or harlequins in a 10g. They have since been moved. Then I divided the 10g and put male bettas on each side....that didn't work out too well as one of the little rascals slipped between the divider and the glass....well, he is in the hospital tank now

I think you can take as much advice as you want but trial and error is best way to go as every fish is different ;) obviously starting with advice is a must but doesnt always work out the same

yeah bruce i can relate to that one. when i was younger and lived at my mums, i once found her deftly polishing the tank and cabinet with windowleen and pledge! i almost laid an egg!!!!

seed lord...to a certain extent you are right about trial and error but i would always prefer to do some research and take the advice of others who have loads of experience in an attempt to avoid the 'error.' i have found that no one on here has a habit of giving advice about things they know nothing about...at least not without suggesting that clarification is sought from other members.

:D

I try to lend advice based on mistakes I have made in hopes of keeping someone else from making those mistakes. I killed and tortured many fish because I didn't do research (didn't know about cycling.) I hate to put it in that wording, but that is pretty much what I unintentionally did. But to error is human and there will alwasy be a new mistake that will teach even the experts a lesson lol.

But if you already have multiple people urging you to rethink what your are planning to do, why would you blow them off? I know I have a coworker that does that to me often when i try to correct him on procedure. Its like a big middle finger to me :)
