To anyone wondering what hardy fish to put in their 1st tank may i suggest Leopard Danios.I came down this morning to find one of mine caught in the thermometer guard. It couldnt swim forward as the gap got smaller and i couldnt pull it out as its fins and gill cover were caught.A few minutes and a sharp pair of pliers later it was free and apart from looking a bit shabby none the worse for wear.

How about people cycle their tanks correctly as per the advice on this site and then they can stock as they wish? Also you have to have the right size tank for danios as they love to dart up and down the tank. I wouldn't keep them in anything less than 4ft

Dannios are not that hardy - and are not a tropical fish and thrive at room temps not the 25-27c range.

As above, they (as all fish) have specific requirements, for Dannios specifically high flow rate ( I have a power head that come on for 2 * 1 hour periods / day), they love this and a long tank, depth isn't as important

Well,i would class this one as hardy and danios can be kept in tanks less than 4ft long and still thrive. Also when i want advice i will ask for it.Dont hijack my posts to stand on your soapboxes

Fiddlesticks.

They may be hardy fish, but they are not a good suggestion to add to a tank smaller than 4-foot, especially if the fish keeper has plans to have the temperature above 20C for anything but a short summer period.

In your opinion.I really wish you would add that. You make it sound that you are right and the(probably) 100s of people on here who have danios in 90l or less tanks are wrong. Its like the cory sand/gravel question. There is more than 1 right answer to some questions. Its the same as the neon advice you get on here. They shoal in 1000s in the wild so its wrong to keep them in groups of less than 6?Rant over

Their opinion that is based on fact rather than yours that you plucked out of the air you mean? They make it sound as though they are right because they are. The fact is that just because 100's of people have danios in smaller tanks than 4ft, they are not suited to it and it would be cruel to keep them in anything less. 100's of people keep goldfish in tanks smaller than they shoud, are you going to tell me they are all right as well?

Im pretty sure I could keep you alive living in a wardrobe as long as you were fed, I bet you wouldnt be very happy/healthy though would you?

Childish name calling or snide comments.I know which i prefer.I cannot say whether i am right or wrong,my fish are healthy and active in a clean, disease free, well filtered tank yet you are trying to make me out like Dr Frankenstein.Unless you can furnish me with irrefutable proof, rather than hearsay, that i am harming my fish kindly keep your opinions for people that ask for them.PS,try to take a leaf out of Fluttermoths approach to educating the less experienced, sharing knowledge without talking down.

This is a public forum, if you dont want to hear other peoples opinions then dont post. Simple.

Oh and btw, your filter capacity etc still doesnt mean they have the swimming space that they should.

Note - the order of the posts in this thread now doesnt match up as the OP's childish insults have been removed.

P.S at no point did I make you out to be like 'Dr Frankenstein' (lol btw, that doesnt even make sense!!) I am merely stating that a 4ft tank is what danios should have.

Are you suggesting that I think you are taking the body parts of various danios and creating one fish? lol

If you read my original post you will see that i wasnt looking for advice,it was thrust upon me.I have asked for and received advice on this forum before.Yes,you are right,it is a public forum but heaven help the public if they dont agree with you and your buddies above.

You were giving advice and wrong advice at that. Thats why I and others corrected it. Quite frankly I couldnt care less if that annoys you as long as others get the right advice.

Whose to say the advice is right,do you never watch QI?I could start a post about who has danios in a 90l tank and the majority of replies will come from the self-appointed dimension police.

What wrong advice? That danios are hardy fish.I would say my experience with the pliers backs my statement up,wouldnt you?

Does the fact that, as you say the majority of posts would be of the opposite opinion not prove something to you? I wouldnt say that experience proved anything apart from luck. I've had Malawi cichlid fry out of the tank as they were in a piece of ocean rock that I removed, they survived and are now adults and thriving. Does that mean they are hardy? No.
I'm not going to argue with you, or continue posting in this thread. Danios prefer alot more space, your wrong. End of story.
