Hi I have just set up a new 240l aquarium and have been intrested in the SA leaf fish for a while, the problem I have is feeding and care as they require around 4 small fish a day (live) and although breeding Guppys/Molly's is an option I would have to breed alot of fish to keep on feeding. So my question is what other species of leaf fish, true/false would be a good replacement fish instead of these, ie not feeding live fish to it every day, and also thinking of keeping ABF with them, and what other fish would go nicely with these in a planted tank? Thank you

Most leafs require a bit more specialist care, but some can be weaned onto frozen foods and in extreme cases can also start to take dried foods, My Nandus Nandus Pair now accept floating pellets, but also get lance fish, morimo earthworms, (- they go crazy for these) and whole prawns.

Bush fish (ctenopoma acutirostre) on the other hand are usually fairly hardy and adaptable IME and should thrive in a planted setup alongside the likes of african butterflys. Plus another species that would be worth a mention and possibly my favourite small unusual species would be ctenopma ansorgii

Reedfish/Ropefish are another oddball type species that would do well in a planted setup, provided the lid is very secure

Hi I have been looking at the SA leaf fish, I was wondering what diet anyone who has had them has fed them on before? I know they eat only live, how many fish per day do they consume? I was thinking off crickets to supplement their diet and othe insects, and live bloodworm, and was thinking of buying some black Molly's to keep in the tank and breeding, ( don't want to use another tank lack of room) or buying 30+ tetras if that would be enough to feed them on? Options please thankyou
