I have been treating our small fancy goldfish for the last week. He/she is in a 20 Gal Tank with another small fancy (they are about 2") with a mature internal filter. Water peramaters are Amonia 0, Nitite 0, Nitrate 10, Ph 7.5. He/she has been upside down and laying on the bottom of the tank. I added swim bladder treatment and salt as per the treatment instructions (interpet). The fish looked decidedly worse today and I gave it a salt bath. Its scales now look protruding and I am thinking it it probably dropsy. Is there any other alternative than to humanely euthanize?

There not much more you can do really.
Only epson salt baths to help draw the fluids out.
Once scales stick out organ failure, Fish rarely seem to make it once scales stick out. So sorry.

For two fancy goldfish it really should be 25 gallon tanks and a 50 gallon filter. As they are massive waste producers.

I agree with what wilder has said.

However I just want to point out that I recognise you have said the fish were/are 2" at the mo. 2 fancies in a 20gal tank at 2" will be fine for a decent amount of time, and those water stats are perfect.

If they have always been this well looked after then I feel bad for you as you have just been unlucky. You don't know how the fish was treated before you bought it. I presume it may not have been in such good conditions.
