What is the largest fish you've ever kept? Where did you keep it?
Just curious :)

My largest fish was a foot long koi, kept in an outdoor pond. I was 3 at the time, so not much actual caring.
My largest tropical fish was a 6 inch rainbow shark, kept in a 29 gallon.

Male Jaguar cichlid that was just over 12 inches.

Currently have 2 birchirs just over 6 inches and a red devil cichlid now that's pushing 6 inches and is already more aggressive than my jaguar was.

Tiger Shovelnose . I was a newbie at the time and the guy in the fish shop told me it wouldn't grow big. It was about 2 inches when bought, within a month it had grown to about 6. I had to get rid.

I kept a silver Arrowana before too but something went petevtong and it died.

I also had a green terror at about 10 inches. My all time favourite :good:

Aro's get stunted very easily. This may have been why yours died... As you now know they need huuuge tanks. 8x3x3 would be a minimum for a silver

2" Bolivian ram currently in my 29 gallon.

Biggest fish I have kept personally.. well... i had numerous fish that all got to a foot long, 30cm and maybe up to 40cm for some... before i had to stop keeping fish and sell up.

Kept:

Pearl Arrowana who got to 35cm...
Silver Arrowana who was 30cm...
Sorobim Limia Catfish was easily 30-35cm...
Tyre Track Eel was 30cm and my ex has him, he is more like 40cm now. :-( my beloved Mr Eeler.
Fire Eel got to about 40cm... impressive for a non feeder
Vieja Synspillum (not vieja any more, cant keep up with the names!) got to 25cm
Oscars.. we had about 4 that were all about 30cm...
Tilapia mariae... about 25cm
Potomotrygon Sp stingray... Raymond was about 30-35cm accross his disk with another 20-25cm for his tail!! He was big!

Had lots of big discus and angels and other catfish but they were the biggest.

At work.. biggest i have delt with was probably 60-80cm catfish like Boris the Giraffe Catfish, Buster the Perruno Catfish, Buster the Mystus Wykii Catfish, Red Tail Catfish, Silver Arrowanas, 60+cm Fire Eels, Pangasius etc...

Not to mention the big variety of foot long cichlids like oscars, jaguars, nandopsis istlanum (though name changed again i think), geophagus, goldfish, the bigger koi and sturgeon and sterlets etc...

I love big fish! But they just HAVE to be kept appropriately. I had a nice 8 x 3 x 2 tank and sump that was about 1700L all in and not to mention a lot of other good sized tanks and indoor ponds.

My ~25cm SL Synodontis notata

We had small mouth bass in my 30G for a few days when were stocking our fishing pond, they ranged between 3in and 9in (Not at all ideal as there were about 10 of them in the tank but it was only for two days :p)

Does that count as keeping? :p
btw they're not pretty fish to keep, but they are tasty :)
