I have guppys (and fry), platys, mollies, botia darios and a butterfly sucker, and ammano shrimp

will a common plec (about 10inchs) pose any threat to the little livebearers or shrimp?

No, you dont need to worry about that. How big if you tank through? Common plecs can get to twice that size!

its going into a 5ft and then hopefully upgrading in a few months
I have also been offered a stinging catfish - would that harm my darios etc?

The pleco shouldn't hurt anything.

On the other hand, the botia darios will pose a threat to the amano shrimp.

thats good, the ammanos and darios have been together for about 3 months, the ammanos are bigger than the darios, would the common plec be territorial to my tiny gold ringed butterfly sucker? or the darios?
