Lack Of Oxygen

What are the sypmtoms of it? I've just stuff the cage in my Fluval U2 that holds that noodle ring things with some filter floss too to try and polish my water and get out all the really small bits but it has, as expected, reduced the strength of the flow a little bit. The surface of water still moves a bit but I don't know if it's enough.


What sypmtoms in the tank should I look out for just in case? Just constant gasping at the top?

I`m no expert but in your position I would clean or replace the mechanical element of the filter medium and clear up the water with consecutive water changes

Fish swimming unusually close to the water surface is a good sign of low oxygen levels.

You can get oxygen test kits an Ebay for ~£5, I'm thinking of getting one myself, for the benefit of an least my Squirrel Loaches.

Oh good idea NOTG, I may just do that. Silly but it's peace of mind isn't it?

Anon, lol it is clean. I do make sure all that's done really regularly, it all gets rinsed prob about once every 2 weeks. The bits tend to come from the water changes, I think it's chalk in the water or something.

is it the tank in your signature that u are worried about. if so its planted isnt it in that case you probably should not worry about it. as your plants release oxygen but yer just keep an eye on them at the top gasping and really pale looking gills or extremely enflamed gills.

You still need to have oxygen during the day in a planted tank. You need to get a balance between the co2 and oxygen. Do you dose co2? pressurised, liquid etc...?

as long as you have a ripple, created by the filter, you'll have enough O2 Caz. Don't bother with a O2 kit, the fish will be the judges.

Ripples are good.

Lol well it's not so much a ripple but it is moving and some of the plants are still swaying. Hopefully that's enough. Yeah it's the same tank Alex.

Yeah I dose Easycarbo every day. My tank is 60L (well more like 57L) and I dose 1.1.5ML every day. If that's wrong blame my dad, he worked it out for me!
