Kribensis Identification

Hi I am new to this but just wondering if this kribensis is a male or a female. Help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm going to bite the bullet and say male due to the lack of stomach color. But then, the fish in question does not seem to have rounded fins. A clear, side shot of the fish would help out a lot. Also, Kribensis are a African Cichlid. So this post belongs in the African Section.

It is a little difficult to tell. If you look closely it almost looks like it does have a faint reddish/pinkish coloration to the belly and looks sorta rounded. From those pictures though I would say male but a new pic would be good of a clear side shot.

Just thought I would say I brought what I was told was 1 male and one female. This is the smaller of the two, the larger one is definitely male but as they have not breed I now think the were both males.

It looks like a male. The belly is not as rounded as females bellies.

Hard to say, I know it does lack the rounded red belly, but I have kept females that if not in breeding condition would lack that round red belly. Also I'm looking at the dorsal and anal fins and it reminds me of a female. So my vote is a female, it is hard to say though.

I would go with a female that isn't in breeding colour form. Looks nice, suits your tank.

Fins are usually a good indicator. In the original picture, the pelvic fins were blue. I normally only see males with blue pelvic fins. Which is why I was leaning towards male. But not that the new pictures are up, it is definitely a female.

Basti: I would wait on them. Sometimes they wont breed till a month or later after introduction. It just takes time. Do weekly water changes and feed them good food. That will do the trick.

So still not 100% sure if m or f but for now would it be best kept in a tank with a female albino kribensis that is slightly smaller than it, or with a much larger male.
