Hi all, i'm new the site here and would appreciate any advice you may have about Kribensis cichlids.

We've only had our pair for maybe a month and they have already spawned. This was about three? weeks ago.
Their bellies (the pink patch) has faded away mostly and our female keeps attacking the male.
The male (Big Daddy) seems to be having trouble staying upright and a couple times made me think he'd carked it.
I can't tell if he's actually crook or if he's sooking about Mama attackig him.

I've put him in another tank (one i bought to separate the Serpae Tetras as the kribs were too aggressive during spawning)
he's turned almost completely black but isn't sitting at the top of the tank anymore so good start i guess...
He looks pretty pissed though...

I've become really fond of the Kribs. Mama reminds of a German Shepherd dog when she shakes herself and rushes me when i look in to check the bubs and Big Daddy is like a laid back, old man (usually).

I'm just not sure if i should be more concerned about Daddy but if anyone has any ideas about what i can do to perk him back i'd really appreciate it.

Thanks!

Hi again, if any of you know anything about kribs or anyone else who does please refer them to me.
I'm really worried about my male krib and how aggressive the female is being towards him, she's been nipping at his tail fin and shredding it up.

They have a 4ft tank to almost to themselves. We started with the pair of kribs, four tetra serpae, five guppies and two catfish.
All the guppies died off and all the others seemed to do really well untill the fry came along and the kribs chased them off, confining them to one corner of the tank.
We took out the tetras because they seemed like they were getting too stressed but left the catfish who don't seem bothered by the kribs.
But now, mama keeps attacking daddy and he's not looking too good, as i said she's tearing up his tail fin so he goes and hides and just sits really still. He doesn't even try to escape when i catch him in the net.

I've become really attached to him and really don't want him to die but i can't figure out where things went wrong with him.

So if any one does have any idea how i can help him i would really appreciate it!!!
Thankyou!

This is my poor Daddy fish at the mo. I don't think he's gonna make it as he can't keep him self upright at all.

Poor krib, at this stage , there is not much you can do. However, you could buy some tail medicine and some live foods to tempt him up.
Carl :)

Thanks Carl but unfortunately i messed up too bad with him and he's gone...
That's one lesson learned - if you take a fish away from an attacker don't bother trying to put it back at all!!!
Not even for a few minutes thinking all might be well 'cos it won't be!!!

I think we'll sell off the Cichlids and go for a nice calm fish, something pretty and happy...
I have 3 young kids who love watching the fish too so i don't want them watching the fish killing each other.

Anyone have any suggestions on some good fish???
Thanks.

I am so sorry about the loss of the male.

what size tank do you have? do you plan on keeping the female? this will help us help you set up a nice peaceful tank for you and your kids to enjoy

Thankyou Jenste.
We have a 4ft tank (about 160 litres?)

we haven't decided what we will do yet. My husband is considering getting another male or eventually converting to saltwater fish so the kids can have Nemo and Dory.
I'd prefer fish that like similar water conditions to Kribs as i don't have much trouble maintaining it.
