But it's happened on more than one occasion and I'm wondering if anybody else has done it the way I'm contemplating. The problem: found a dead julii this morning in my tank. It was always poorly and the death wasn't a surprise. When I found it, about half had already been consumed by the RCS and assassin snails. The question: should I just let nature take its course and give the RCS and especially the assassins a tasty meal, or immediately remove the carcass? I can't imagine that with the rate it's being consumed that a large amount of ammonia would be produced, and therefore shouldn't pose a danger to the rest of the fish. And I know this has happened in my fishkeeping career before, because (and this has happened to everybody) I have found remains that I know have been there for some time, but I usually scoop them out as soon as I find them. But as I said, these are being consumed so fast I don't think there's any danger, and since the assassins don't have any snails to eat, I'm thinking this is a good thing for them. Grosses me out, but if there's no harm in leaving the remains, does anyone see a problem?

Always take dead individuals out, if you see them. Unless you're 100% sure how they died, which is unlikely, you could be allowing pathogens to spread; a lot are passed through ingestion.

Especially corydoras bodies, its worse for me as I am allergic to them, dead or no.... but their skeleton wont break down and if you stab yourself on it when cleaning the tank... it really *really* hurts.

Well, I had originally planned to remove the carcass when the flesh had been eaten, but I took it out anyway. It was pretty well cleaned off.

You're allergic to cory?? What happens?

I'm allergic to fish and seafood LOL

It started off just being when I ate it (though even then, took 6 years to realise it was the fish making me sick as I was a sicky kid anyway) but al it did was make me projectile vomit.

Now if I eat it (café gave me a tuna sandwich instead of chicken and there was so much mayonnaise that it took me two bites to realise!) and that ended up with me being horribly sick and my throat getting really tight but a load of antihistamines helped but took a day or two. Same with when I bought a Chicken Cesar wrap from Asda, who'd have thought Anchovie Paste would be included in a Chicken Ceasar wrap?! I didn't even think to check!

Then I got stung on my right hand by something in the coral vat (though think it was another invert rather than the corals themselves as I still had stingers and hooks in my hand) which swelled up so badly I ended up in A+E. Now I can't use my right hand to feed the fish as that hand reacts a lot quicker than my left!! But now if I handle fish food for more than a minute without scrubbing my hands, my hands start swelling up.

Been stabbed by a pictus catfish and by a dead cory as well that left me with a very tight throat and projectile vomiting.

I guess if I keep exposing myself to it, the allergy will just keep getting worse! I'm not stupid about it, wear gloves when needed and don't touch spikey fish!

You're seriously allergic to fish... and you work in a fish store?

That's dedication lol!

It's a bit like Phil Mitchel working down the Queen Vic.
