hI Peeps woke up this morning to find a nearly fully eaten silvetip in my tank then later on its tank mate with what looked like a bite on its side only new additions are 2 frogs have checked feet are webbed so as far as i know not killers but if they wasnt other food would they eat the fish ??? also come to think of it one of them did look larger than normal.Any clues ?? all other fish have been ther for over a year some more.
Tank mates are..

1 Large silver shark
2 plecs
2 Buenas Aries barbs
2 cherry barbs
2 Blackwidows
3 Scissor tails
4 zebra danio's
4 pearl danio's
4 Imperial tetras
4 Tiger barbs
5 Freshwater shrimps(great night
time clean up crew)
6 glowlights
6 neon tetras
Asorted molly's
various platty's

Like to know how many gallons that tank is as there alot of fish in the list.

First of all, what size is your tank? It would need to be very large to accomodate all of those inhabitants.

I suspect that the eaten fish died, and then was eaten by the other tank mates. You say the tank has been set up for a long time, perhaps it was just old age?

Its way over stocked then, them bala sharks need 90gal if they grown big now, and they should be kept in groups as there a shoaling fish.
When a tank is overstocked the fish get aggressive.
I would get your tank water tested to see if its coping with the load of fish in there, any tell them to write the readings down for you.

Am getting rid of the bala as i know they can grow to a good size 1ft.And water tests are fine. at the moment the bala is about 3.5"

I honestly wouldn't worry about it unless more fish die. But work on rehoming the ones you have :)

Tank is now

1 plec
2 Buenas Aries barbs
2 cherry barbs
2 Blackwidows
3 Scissor tails
4 zebra danio's

3 Imperial tetras
4 Tiger barbs
5 Freshwater shrimps(great night

5 glowlights
4 neon tetras
2 mollies
3 plattyies

and the frogs.so u dont think it was the frogs ?? I heard these can be quiet carniverous.

I would rehome them tiger barbs there aggressive and they could attack your frog, seen it before on here a frog died as a tiger barb ripped it arm off.

Do your tiger barbs nip the fins of the black widows.

No all been fine for absoloutly months *UPDATE*gf just phoned now lost a emporer tetra & a Buenas aries barb. Idid treat the tank last week with some tank tonic salt (was a blueish white rock salt kinda thing)(as a tetra had popeye which has now cured) do u think that was the cause ?? Bala now gone and tigers go tommorow.

Plecs are scaless fish and can not tolerate salt as it burns there skin.
If you have had popeye and fish are still dying sounds like you have a bacteria infection in your tank, i would add a bacterial med to the tank.
Remove the salt with water changes.

MAN this is really freaking me out now :( gonna do a partial water change tommorow. The plec is fine tbh so far. What do you recomend after water change to treat for possible infections ?.

Myxazin by waterlife.
