Fish Fanatic
Hi all
I was wonderfully surprised yesterday on Valentines Day that my female keyhole after months of her and her mate being very broody and protective had produced what I think is her first ever batch of eggs and was hovering over them all smug and proud.
However, the only problem was, she'd decided to keep the eggs on a random patch of substrate (I have sand in my tank) just behind a small piece of bogwood. It's a safish and quite secluded area, but I thought that keyholes were supposed to lay their eggs on flat rocks etc? There's loads of hiding places and flat rocks in the tank so I'm a bit bemused by this behaviour.
Needless to say, this morning the eggs were gone - probably eaten by the corys in the tank sifting through the substrate.
Do you think she's just new to mothering and needs to do some trial and error before she gets it right - is there any way I can encourage her to lay on rocks rather than the sand?
Any comments more than welcome
