Keyhole Cichlids

hey again

thanx for the info

also do u tell the difference between male and female like u do with other dwarf cichlids, because i think i got two males males because the end of the fin is pointed at the top

Wow I don't think I've ever got this much attention, I'm lovin it! lol
digital_run thanks for your friendly comments. So far so good, not even my severum or pleco wants to eat the eggs so they're still there(going on day 3 now and I read it takes 3-5 days to hatch). But there's nobody guarding them what so ever.....kinda worries me
Silva_Fishy they do great with dwarf cichlids(not aggressive though) which is mostly what my tank has(blue and gold Rams). justGive them plenty of shelter b/c they're very timid.
dwarf_dude to tell you the truth, I don't know a specific way to tell sexes. They did the whole breeding thing "undercover" so i missed it all and now that they're laid nobody even guards them so I still can't tell! grrr  . Basically i'm judging it off of their size. The bigger, more rounded keyholes are the females and the smaller, less broad are the males. If you do find out, plz inform me lol.

Ummm.... are you sure they are keyhole eggs. My guys are currently protecting their eggs fiercously (sp) and nobody can get near the eggs!! Can you get a close up picture of the eggs? Looking at your photos your keyholes seem very small to be laying eggs (please correct me if i'm wrong!) or do you just have a giant cory!!
Sorry to rain on the parade :(

When I was researching what the keyhole eggs looked like, they mimicked what i had. My keyholes range from sizes under 2inches to over 3. I've had my cories(yes they're quite broad for a cory, some reaching 2inches atleast) breed before and the eggs did not look like this so they're not theirs. Plus my cories ate them alot sooner. I'll try for a better closeup but no guarentees. I guess we'll all see in the end...
Thanks for the input aloaring :)

Thats good to hear snowyangel my keyholes just ate their eggs for the second time. Silly fish seem to have a taste for caviar!! So i'll have to wait a while longer to see if i can get them to breed. :look:

P.S Your tank is stunning i'm jealous !

Thank you very much for the comment Aloaring. It's going on day 5 for the egs and no has eaten the eggs nor do they look developed. Maybe a keyhole or something else laid them and they're was no male around to fertilize them? None of the eggs are turning white(indication of fungas) so I dunno what to think.

Hi Snowy Angel
Have the eggs hatched yet? I was told they would hatch within 3-4 days and if they weren't fertilized they would turn white. This is a new kind of mystery!!

can you post more pics if they hatch?
