Hi All,

Its been a while since ive been on here so please accept my apologies BUT ive got the fish keeping bug BIG TIME now and its whats been keeping me away.

Ive turned into a bit of a Malawi nut but also Frontosa nut, to the point i now not only own a Juwel Vision 180 but a Juwel Vision 260 and now looking at getting the Juwel Vision 450.

What I need to know is: How heavy is the tank alone? It will be freshwater, is it 450 litre so 450kg plus the weight of the tank, giving me a total weight of...........? I also will be putting coral sand and ocean rock in, probly 50kg of ocean rock and 20/30lb of coral sand in it.

This is the stand its its www.stollers.co.uk/cart/hercules-granite-topped-kitchen-work-bench.html

It is solid oak, special build as not having the granite top its having solid wood right across, perfect dimensions for the Vision 450. The wood on this is THICK like ridiculous, enought space underneath for my two external filters also.

My floor base is fine ie: concrete also.

without knowing the dimensions of the tank i would estimate about 250 pounds for the tank alone....on top of that you have water and anything else your putting in the tank.....total weight would probably be around 1500 pounds.....thats including everything except the stand.....

its hard to say because it depends on the tank build.....certain brands are heavier than others.....also, tanks with a center brace tend to be lighter as the glass is normally a bit thinner.....

why do you need to know?

Nurse! Nurse! Another case of MTS!

Multiple Tank Syndrome. It's a serious condition, affecting many many people, symptoms are a strong compulsion to have as many fishtanks in your house as possible.

Ha ha, sooo true, I have my second running and now thinking of turning my 30 litre hospital tank into a betta home.
I'm not though, I'm going to remain strong, until I find a bigger house myself that is ;)

For some reason, my wife seems to have been vaccinated against it. *sniff*

It will ultimately increase your costs, however you could try a bribe of a new pair of shoes, and err, matching handbag? Some lovely tanks in the January sales :/. Remember, vaccinations are never 100 % ;)

Shels, I have tried every trick I can think of (she's not a shoes and handbag kinda gal). We've just bought a new tank in the MA sale, (which she really loves, one of their Oak range, looks superb), but she's insisting on selling the old one.

OMG I'm so jealous!! I've been looking at that oak range in MA for 6 months now.
No I'm not a shoes and handbag gal either! Guess I was stereo typing there :/ at least she loves the new tank! I'd love to see pics of what you've done.

Are you having the tank up stairs ??
I have had a 350L up stairs and the floor kept creaking. I then moved it and the floor went though....
The tank would weigh around 75 stone.
With the stand it would come to about 78 stone.
No up stairs floor can hold that weight. If your having it on the ground floor then your a very lucky person :)

Lockman, you need to drag her round loads of MAs showing her really awesome fish that see falls in love with!! That are utterly incompatable with your stocking for the oak tank ;) ergo she needs her own tank ;) That you will of course help her with and maintain for her (then of course before she realises it... you take over it too lol).

Markandjanice, its certainly going to be a weighty tank! 450L = 450kgs + about 25-30kgs substrate.... + about 50kgs of ocean rock + tank weight... 85kgs according to Juwel :) http://www.juwel-aquarium.co.uk/Products/Aquariums/Vision-Line/Vision-180-UK-black.html#!juwel-000000000000010320

So about 615kgs.

Doesn't the substrate displace an equal volume of water and therefore give the same weight as water only? Similarly with rocks etc?

Had you had a leak to cause weakness on the floor? How old is your house? I'm a bit worried now!
I'm about to set up a 350 trigon and found on the juwel website that it will weigh 469kg when full.
We're working on that being the equivalent of 5 men snuggled closely in the corner of the room. I would expect building regs would expect joists to carry that weight?
